Chicken shish kebabs

This is a simple chicken shish kebabs dish that is really easy to make with very basic spices. Serve with yogurt garlic sauce or cucumber yogurt salad.

Step 1

Slice the chicken as instructed. Take one breast piece and slice it in the middle along the length of the breast so as to get a thinner slice of breast. Now use a sideways action on your knife and cut bite sized pieces.

Step 2

Mix the chicken with all the ingredients and add a tea spoon of salt and one tablespoon of olive oil. Refrigerate for at least a couple of hours if not more.

Step 3

Heat a flat pan that does not have any sides so that the barbecue skewers can stick out of the pan. Place on the pan and cook for about 5-8 minutes. Keep turning the kebab till it is nice and brown on all sides. Wash the kebabs with some olive oil as you keep turning them.

Step 4

Serve with a Onion Garlic or eggplant dip.

My Notes

1.I used easily available wooden barbecue sticks.
2. The original recipe recommends using a charcoal grill. I have used a flat plate on cooking gas to allow this recipe to be easily cooked regularly.
3. If you have time available to set up a charcoal grill, then by all means do so. That is more original and true to the spirit of Turkish cuisine.
4. These kebabs are delicious on their own. You can also serve them with warm pita bread with a sprinkling of red chilli oil and a simple tomato sauce.
5. Lamb or beef  cubes can also be used. The cooking time may need to be varied by a couple of minutes.
6. In Turkish this is called as Tavuk Sis Kebaki.
