Tomato dipping sauce
This is a very different type of a tomato dipping sauce to be used as a side in any meal. It is an old recipe in my family and what makes it unique is the use of tomato, yogurt and ground peanuts.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 4 dried red chillies, torn to pieces
- 6 large tomatoes pureed
- 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup yogurt
- Half a cup of roasted peanuts crushed
- 1 inch ginger grated
- 4 cloves of garlic finely chopped
- 1 green chilli finely chopped
- quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder
Method
Step 1
Put oil in a frying pan over medium heat. When hot, add the mustard and turmeric powder and wait till it crackles. Do not let the turmeric burn. Add the onion, garlic and ginger and saute till the onions are transparent.
Step 2
Pour in pureed tomatoes and finely chopped green chillies and cook over medium heat till the tomatoes are cooked. Add the yogurt and crushed peanuts and cook on slow fire. The yogurt will release water and the mixture needs to be stirred frequently. Reduce the preparation till you have a thick consistency. Add salt to taste and serve once it is cooled down.
Family recipe
1. You can adjust the spice by reducing or increasing the chilli.
